WAKY ASSURES YOUR MESSAGE OF QUALITY LISTENERSHIP

IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST

Believing that service to Louisville community is of prime importance, WAKY lends its facilities and the time and talent of its staff to any worthy civic or charitable endeavor. WAKY broadcasts three to four announcements "in the public interest" every hour.

No request for WAKY's help goes unheeded. Because of the dominant position of WAKY, very nearly every civic, charitable and church organization in the area appeals to the station for assistance. In addition, WAKY will respond, whenever possible, to an individual citizen's request for help if it is legitimate and worthwhile.

SPECIFIC FUND RAISING DRIVES

For the Community Fund, Red Cross, etc. fun raising drives, WAKY contacts locally prominent people connected with the drive and asks them to record a brief message explaining the drive and asking for contributions. These messages are broadcast throughout the campaign.

EDITORIALS

WAKY's General Manager researches and broadcasts editorials concerning local issues, and in the interests of righting wrongs that exist in the community. The editorials are not broadcast as a matter of course, but rather when there is something significant of interest to the area. A recent example of the good done by these editorials: Finding that Louisville policemen were terribly underpaid, the general manager investigated the situation, and found that a wage increase was needed. He conducted an editorial campaign for higher wages for the force. As a result, a raise for these men has now been accomplished.

SAFETY

WAKY records the actual voices of Firemen -- reminding listeners of the importance of fire prevention, giving them useful information on how to prevent fires, etc. Policemen -- stressing traffic and pedestrian safety, including traffic laws, common sense safety rules, etc. Postmen -- at Christmas, for instance, asking listeners to mail early, reminding them of postal regulations, etc.

OPTIMISTS RECORD HOPS

Saturday night, WAKY, in cooperation with the Louisville area Optimists Clubs (26 in all), conducts record hops for teenagers. There are four of these hops each week, and 1500-2000 young people attend.

LOUISVILLE SPORTS SHOW

WAKY takes a booth at the Louisville Sports Show, and in conjunction with the Louisville AAA, provides for driving tests for visitors to the show, and conducts safety classes for driving students.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

In cooperation with the Kentucky Department of Economic Security, WAKY broadcasts announcements of jobs available in the area. The Department has commended WAKY for this service and the exceptionally high caliber of people who respond. Frequently, announcements have had to be withdrawn because of extremely heavy response.

MARCH OF DIMES

For the 1960 March of Dimes, WAKY sold records autographed by the Kingston Trio for $100 each, and turned over the proceeds to the March of Dimes.

SCHOLARSHIP

WAKY constantly emphasizes the importance of high scholastic standings by conducting a continuing campaign stressing good grades for students.

SERVICE IN SOUND

WEATHER

WAKY has a direct line to the United States Weather Bureau and reports complete weather forecasts five times per hour.

ROAD AND EXPRESSWAY REPORT

Heavy emphasis is given on complete traffic conditions via WAKY'S AIR TRAFFIC REPORT during the commuting hours direct from an airplane, reporting on the scene. Complete traffic conditions are given throughout the year.

SPORTS SCOREBOARD

Local and National sports scores and information are reported once per hour throughout WAKY's broadcast day.
